Videoplug Extension for Forum

posted on Tue, January 02nd, 2007

This extension allows you to add youtube and googlevideo to Expression Engine forum posts. To use it in the forum a user just needs to add:

or
[googlevideo]docid[/googlevideo]

in their post. There are two functions included. The first one is to get the code translated into the correct html object code and the second one adds some user friendly buttons to the forum post interface. Here you can see it working.
Expression Engine Forum Module 1.3.2 is required in order to run that extension.

Installation Instructions

 1. Unzip the zip file in your extenstion directory.
 2. Go to Admin->Utilities->Extension Manager and "Enable Extension".
 3. Enable the Extension.

It's not working for me. I've enabled the extension, but when I added the docid it just posts the code.
any suggestions?

Can you send me the docid you are trying to use? I make a check on the docid, so it is possible that the docid you used doesn't pass this check, because only certain characters are allowed.

I found out part of my problem was running an older version of the forums. I upgraded to the most recent version and youtube videos are fine. However google video isn't working. I tried a couple of different videos and invcluding or not including the =en at the end of the tag.

Anyhow my forum thread is: http://eflgeek.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/73

Thanks for your help

Trying to get this working, installed it ok, it shows up, but doesn't render the video in the forums here: http://www.iphonematters.com/main/forum/viewthread/2/

Any ideas? I'm using the latest version of the forums and EE.

thanks!

Hi Hadley,

you just need to add the video code and not the html code within the tags.

lars!

first off, this software is great! can i paypal you a few bucks to say thanks?

secondly, i am running EE 1.5.0. do i need to upgrade to 1.5.2 to make this work?

basically, all i did was download your zip file, unzip it and put the extension in the proper folder on my server. i didn't alter anything. was i supposed to?

the extension uploaded perfectly, but the embedding still isn't working. here is my test:

Anyone told me lately you are awesome. I followed the directions and it worked the first time! Only tried with YouTube, but I'm assuming both will work.

Totally awesome!

How would I go about adding another video site, such as Photobucket? I can send over the extension file, I added site to video_sites array, then added a button, and finally created the function.

Everything works, other than the rendering of the [photobucket] tags.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Lars -

Can we get Blip.tv added to this plugin? That would be AWESOME.

Also, this may be a bit more complicated, but how can we go about embedding video from our OWN hosted flash player on our site? If you can email me, I can go into more detail.

This looks fantastic.

I just downloaded the plugin, copy it to th "ee_superfolder\extensions" and enabled it under "Admin->Utilities->Extension Manager and "Enable Extension"

But i still just see the code?

What do i have to do to get this to work...? i'm running the latest EE 1.6.0

Rasmus,

you just need to enter the video code not the complete url. So in your case it would be:

This should be working.

Thanks for the plug-in!

Strange thing - it worked at first, and the original posts I placed still work, but now I get the "box" from Google Video, but the video does not play within it - the box is blank (black)

see lower part of:

Regarding my last comment about the vid plug not working - I tried a youtube number and it works - but goog video does not - I suspect it is a goog problem, although it has been going on for days.

Craig -

it seems to me that you didnt'c copy the whole doc_id. Sometimes Google Video uses negative doc_id's, which need to be copied completely.

Just wondering if this can be used in conjunction with the EE wiki?

How difficult would it be to update the extension to function in the wiki's world?

Hi Michael,

I don't know if there are hooks in the wiki modul. I will have a look at it if time permits, but can't promise it right now..

Are you planning to upgrade it for the new EE 2.0 and Discussion Forum Module 3.0?

I'm anxiously looking for a solution for this!
