Update Video Extension

posted on Mon, February 05th, 2007

I just updated the Expression Engine Video Extension.

1. It is now possible to use either a complete url or the video doc_id. I got a lot of inquiries from many users, who just entered the complete url, which is easy to copy and paste. So it was logically accept the url and strip the doc_id out of the url. [This works only for youtube and google video]

2. The extension can now be used for weblog entries and weblog comments also. So if you like to add the youtube videos in your weblog entries you don't longer need to copy and paste, the whole object code within your weblog entry.

Example:
doc_id[ /youtube] or
[google]doc_id[ /google]

3. More video sites are supported: youtube, googlevideo, photobucket, vimeo and animoto

Will this work for vimeo videos as well?

and just to be thorough...can I safely assume that this works for blogs, not just forums?

Hello Brandon,

yes the extension can be used within the blogs as well.

I haven't heard of vimeo so far, but maybe I find the time to update the extension to support it..

Thanks Lars! I'm no PHP expert, but looking at your code it looks as simple as mimicing one or two of your functions and modifying the code a bit to match vimeo video embed structure: http://vimeo.com/464685. if you hover over the video there will be an embed link on the right side...it will pop up a new window with the code.

yes you are right.. it's not to hard to update the code..

i couldn't wait...i tested it, and it worked! i only made a few tweak to meet my needs: changed width/height and some of the other querystring parameters (turned off title and such). thanks sooooo much!

How do we activate this extension? I uploaded it to my plugins directory but do not see it listed in plugins under the admin link.

Hey Shannon,

it is an extension not a plugin. You need to copy it int the extension folder and then go to the
System Administration->Utilities->Extensions Manager
menu in the control panel to activate the extension.

Hey Lars. Great plugin. I just noticed a bug, however:

Version 0.9 strips HTML tags out of comments. See this thread for details, or feel free to contact me.

I must oversee something simple, but I just got the code or . There is no conversion to the right code.

I tried different ee-logs, but they all show the same. EE 1.62 en 1.63, videoplug 0.9

I also am having the problem Marcel is having it seems.

ExpressionEngine v 1.6.4
En
Videoplug (v.0.9)

and also TinyMCE in case that matters.

It just renders the docid[ /youtube] as is. no conversion.

After updating to latest EE (1.6.6) this extention completely stops working. Any idea why?

Hmm it seems to be working here. I've just updated to 1.6.6 and it works. Could you be more specific? Do you have any additional third party extensions, modules or plugins?

Lars,

I just came across your extension and I would like to be able to use it with vimeo. I tried [vimeo]video_id[/vimeo] but it did not work.

Does this work with Vimeo? If so, I must be doing something wrong. Please let me know.

Thank you.
