Really Bad Powerpoint

posted on Tue, January 30th, 2007

I wrote about presentation style and a presentation zen as a very good resource for presentation ideas a while ago. A recent article from Seth Godin about really bad Powerpoint reminded me to visit this site more often. In his article Seth Godin emphasizes the emotional component of your presentation, which cannot be delivered by bullet point filled and text loaded powerpoint slides. What you need is to persuade the people from your ideas with emotion, which later can be covered with facts you have prepared, but won't show on the presentation itself. And how can you make presentations more emotional? Use right images and maybe sounds (but rare) that will strengthen your arguments your are going to tell.

I listened to a wonderful presentation in terms of emotion last year on the red sea underwater photo competition in Eilat, where Amos Nachoum about his images and his motivation. He only used a very few but remarkable photographs along with his talk in his presentation, but it seemed that anybody in the audience was totally intrigued by it and just wanted to go shooting.

PS: On a short visit at presentation zen I found this presentation movie very interesting and funny.

A better version of that movie can be found at the Clemens Kogler's Webpage
