Google Charts API
Google has released a new API for generating charts in a dynamic way. The usage is quite straightforward: you link to an image in the form of a parameterized URL, such as
http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=bvg&chbh=10& chd=t:90,49,32,242&chs=200x20&chco=aaaaaa.
There are different chart types available such as line charts, bar charts, pie charts, venn diagrams or scatter plots, that can be customized with some a great deal of options. Although I missed an option to vertically align the labels on the x-axis.
Below you find a bar chart generated by the API showing the usage of dublin core elements in the meta data stored on scientificcommons.org and retrieved from the OAI-PMH archives worldwide.
Legend for the x-axis:
tit = title
dat = date
ide = identifier
cre = creator
sub = subject
lan = language
typ = type
pub = publisher
des = description
for = format
rig = rights
sou = source
rel = relation
